Tanya is the fundamental work of Chabad Chasidus written by the first Chabad Rebbe the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi. 

The Lubavitcher Rebbe has written that The Tanya is a collection of advice, given in answer to the queries of Chasidim in private audiences in the years 5540-5550.

In the summer of 5552 the Alter Rebbe began to arrange the Tanya in the form now before us.
